The LEIDEN (Awake/Asleep) is a hand made art doll created from a blank kit or a manufactured doll that has been transformed by Babyclon to resemble a human infant with as much realism as possible. Reborn dolls are also known as lifelike dolls or reborn baby dolls.

The hobby of creating reborn baby dolls began in the early 1990s when doll enthusiasts wanted more realistic dolls. Since then, an industry and community surrounding reborn dolls has emerged and Babyclon been one of them. Reborn dolls are primarily purchased online but are available at fairs. Depending on craftsmanship, they range in price from hundreds to thousands of dollars.

A kit includes the silicone doll parts. Customers can then purchase a reborn doll by choosing a kit (name) by sculptor (name) and have it reborned by a reborn artist (name) e.g. Kelowna by Babyclon sculpted by our Director Cristina Jobs. Consumers purchase a wide range of kits from our catalog to create their own reborn dolls. Making a doll from a kit allows artists to omit some steps in the fabrication process and begin with a blank canvas. Many supplies are needed for both external and internal modifications of full body silicone dolls to make the babies seem more realistic.

The most basic form of the process involves taking a silicone doll, adding multiple hand painted layers of paint, and adding other physical features to the doll. Babyclon picks different brands to best suit the doll they wish to create.

The Leiden model has a size of a one-year-old baby, and its detail is impressive, so much so that even the camera can not capture the level of the texture of the skin so detailed that it has, simulating the pores and micro-wrinkles of a real baby.
